The SSU detained a russian military intelligence agent (better known as the ‘GRU’) who was spying for the enemy in ten regions of Ukraine. The suspect was a 22-year-old resident of Kherson region, who posed as a serviceman and moved around our country using this ‘legend’.

According to the SSU counterintelligence, the agent operated in the Donetsk, Kharkiv, Dnipro, Kherson, Mykolaiv, Odesa, Vinnytsia, Cherkasy, Kirovohrad and Chernivtsi regions.

The perpetrator was traveling from one region to another in turn by bus. In each of the regions, he tried to reconnoiter air defense locations, as well as the coordinates of military hospitals and other medical facilities where Ukrainian soldiers were undergoing inpatient treatment.

The traitor passed the information to the russian special service via messenger.

After completing his tasks, the occupiers promised to ‘evacuate’ their accomplice to the aggressor country and employ him at the Wagner PMC. According to the case materials, the perpetrator wanted to join this group to fight against Ukraine.

The Security Service thwarted the agent's plans and detained him red-handed while he was reconnoitering the locations of the Ukrainian Armed Forces in Mykolaiv.

The SSU seized the perpetrator’s mobile phone, on which he was preparing an agent's ‘report’ and sending it to the russian gru. The SSU CI officers have already identified the names of the persons involved.
